sellers - be cautious
Warning: If accepting cheques, proceed with caution, and only ever accept the correct amount. One scam currently in operation is to send a cheque for a much greater value than the sale price, and then to provide a commission for cashing the cheque.

Another scam is to pressurise you for the goods as soon as you get the cheque. This could indicate that they are using stolen cheques and hoping that you hand over or send the goods before the check bounces.

Some scam artists will ask for your address so that their secretary or accountant can send you a cheque and or so that they can arrange shipping.

Remember a cleared cheque can still bounce, if it turns out to be stolen or fraudulent.

Buyers - be aware
Warning: Please be aware that we cannot be held responsible for transactions that may take place as a result of contacts made through our site. You are advised to proceed with caution to protect yourself. We advise you to keep a copy of any and all adverts which you purchase from as we are not permitted to pass on advertisers details once the seller has deleted the advert.

If you place a Wanted ad, please adhere to the following safeguards
Always request a photo of the item. Do not accept that the seller does not have access to a camera: nearly all mobile phones have one nowadays. Ask for the serial number if applicable, also what other kit it has been used with. Try to get a feeling whether you are dealing with a genuine seller rather than a fraudster. Sadly there are plenty of these on the internet, preying on genuine enthusiasts. Remember, if a deal seems too good to be true it probably is. We do all we can to ensure that sellers are bona fide but we can do nothing about respondents to Wanted ads, we are unable to accept any responsibility for purchases or sales made through HiFi-Forsale, be as certain as possible that you are dealing with a genuine buyer or seller.

Importing from outside of the UK
If you live in the UK and are purchasing goods from outside the UK, you may be liable to pay VAT at 20% and Import Duty at the point of entry into the UK. This amount will depend on the cost and the classification of the goods purchased. Please research this before importing goods bought overseas as the price you see will probably not be the price you eventually have to pay.
